blue plate with apples

I participated in a workshop with Lisa Daria Kennedy in early November, which was terrific!
She gets up every morning at 5 a.m. to paint a small 6x6" panel. I believe today she is on number 1668!
They are wonderful floral studies that she posts for sale on her blog each day- check them out...

I figured 5:00 was pretty early, but 6:00 would be possible. So, I started painting a panel in the morning before work. I don't usually have flowers, but I do have food in the fridge. And I don't get to it every day, but more often than not, I am up before 6:00 painting at the kitchen counter.

These are three acrylics on plexi. I am finding that I really enjoy the exercise- getting up early and painting before the day begins. Hope to keep it up in the New Year!

Citrus with Tulips

Citrus with White Tulips
18 x 18

Citrus with Red Tulips
20 x 24

I am looking forward to getting outside again and painting now that the weather is warmer. I've had the doors open today to enjoy the breeze (and pollen), but the cat just brought in a live chipmunk (whom I saved- and it was less traumatic than the bleeding vole... at least for me), so I am back to closed doors for now.

More Italy...

Impressions of Provence

I
II

These are five small plein air sketches
I did while in Provence.
Initially, I had planned to do further work on them when I returned home, but the more I lived with them, the more I loved them just the way they were- fresh, light and uncomplicated.

Italy 2013

Amalfi Coast
24 x 30"

These two paintings are from photos I took on our trip to Italy last fall.

Citrus with flowers seems to be a theme I keep coming back to. I guess I eat a lot of citrus.

Citrus with Irises
20 x 24"

Citrus with Camelias
30 x 24"
The camelias are from the bush behind the house. I am not a flower gardener and never fertilize anything, but this bush is always crazy with flowers and buds.

Citrus on Two Plates
This is one I did back in November or December at a workshop with Nancy Franke. It sold at the Work of Our Hands show at the Cathedral. I kind of like the simplicity and freshness of it.
